LVL Storage and Preservation Guidelines
Recommended by VILEMA – LVL Manufacturer in Vietnam
Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) manufactured by VILEMA is produced under controlled hot-pressing conditions and strict quality standards for export markets. To maintain dimensional stability, mechanical strength, and surface quality, proper storage at the customer’s warehouse is essential. This guideline is provided by VILEMA to help customers, distributors, and end users store and handle LVL correctly during warehousing and prior to use.
1. Recommended Storage Conditions for LVL
Ambient Humidity and Environment
- Recommended air humidity: 60–75%
- Stable LVL moisture content: 10–14% (depending on application)
- Warehouse should be dry, well-ventilated, and protected from condensation
VILEMA does not recommend storing LVL in environments with humidity above 80% for extended periods.
Floor Conditions and Placement
- Do not place LVL directly on the floor
- Use wooden pallets or bearers with a minimum height of 100 mm
- Floor must be dry, clean, and free from water penetration
Elevating LVL prevents moisture absorption from the floor, a common cause of surface mold.
2. Proper LVL Stacking Method
Stacking Principles
- Stack LVL straight and aligned
- Bearers must be placed in line and at equal height
- Avoid uneven stacking, which may cause bending or warping
Stacking Height
- Recommended maximum height: 2.2 – 2.5 meters
- For higher stacks, use steel straps or PE wrapping to stabilize the bundles
3. Surface Protection and Covering
- Cover the top of LVL stacks with PE film or waterproof sheets
- Do not fully seal LVL in humid storage environments
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight
⚠️ Fully sealed wrapping in humid conditions may cause condensation and mold growth.
4. Mold and Pest Control
- Keep the warehouse clean and free of wet wood
- Inspect stored LVL every 2–4 weeks
- In case of light surface mold:
- Wipe the surface dry
- Improve air circulation
- Reduce ambient humidity
LVL produced by VILEMA is hot-pressed with export-grade adhesive systems; the risk of insects and termites is very low when stored properly.
5. Handling After Opening Packages
- Open LVL packages only when ready for use
- After opening, LVL should be used within 7–14 days
- If further storage is required, re-cover the material following the original storage method
6. Manufacturer’s Recommendations
For best performance, LVL should be stored in conditions similar to its final service environment.
